Baptism-Confirmation Sunday is an exciting time, as we celebrate the faith of members of our Engadine church family. Our Wollongong Region Bishop Peter Haywood will be joining us at Engadine Morning Church and Night Church.

If you’re interested in being baptised or confirmed, please chat to your pastor, or reach out to the office (eac@eac.org.au).

OUR PRACTISE OF BAPTISM AT CHURCH

  • We believe that salvation is by grace alone through faith in Christ alone. We are not saved by any work, tradition or ceremony. We are saved by trusting that Jesus died for our sins on the cross, and that he was raised to new live. (1 Peter 1:3-5, 2:18).

  • Hence, being physically baptised is not essential for salvation. Rather it is a helpful ‘outward physical sign of an inward spiritual reality’. There is diversity of views in deciding what spiritual reality is being symbolised by physical baptism. But overall, we are symbolising different aspects of the one true saving gospel of Jesus Christ.

Our church practise is:

(1) Infant dedication: For unbelievers who want us to pray for their child. This is purposely distinguished from baptism, as we don’t ask the parents to make Christian promises.

(2) Infant baptism: For believers who want to welcome their child into our church family and pray for them to grow to love Jesus for themselves. It involves a symbolic sprinkling of water. We trust that the child will then ‘confirm’ their faith when they become a teenager / adult.

(3) Adult baptism: For believers who weren’t baptised as a child. It usually involves full immersion (getting completely wet, as this was the early church practice, which sprinkling symbolises).
